2019 & 2020 Laser World Championships Ranking Events

The ranking for Australian places in the limited entry Laser World Championships run by the International Laser Class Association (ILCA) is determined by the ALCA  in accordance with the policy outlined here.

World Championships Non Masters

For the events other than Masters places in the preceding National Championships are the basis of ALCA ranking. These rankings are required to be submitted to ILCA soon after the close of applications for the event.

2019 Worlds Ranking Non Masters
The majority of World Championships including the 2019 events are held in the northern hemisphere in their summer so typically June, July and August. The close of applications is usually four months before the event so typically February, March and April thus the Australian ranking for the 2019 World Championship events will be based on the 2019 Australian Nationals (Devonport).

2020 Worlds Ranking Non Masters
We have the 2020 Men’s Standard, Women’s Radial and Men’s Radial Worlds at Sandringham YC in February 2020. These events will have their closing date for application and hence deadline for ILCA ranking in October 2019 which means the preceding National Championship for ranking is the 2019 Australian Nationals (Devonport).

The qualification for the other 2020 non Masters World Championships which will be held in the northern hemisphere summer will be the 2020 Nationals (Sandringham).

World Masters

The ALCA ranking policy for Masters is here. It takes results from the last two World Masters, National Masters and State Masters Championships. Each have the same weighting (100 points).

In the past ILCA has worked very hard and managed to offer entry places to all our Masters sailors who have applied. The ranking has only affected the order in which the entry offers are made – the higher the rank the sooner your entry will be confirmed. We hope but can’t guarantee that this will continue.

2019 World Masters
The venue in Europe for this event will be announced soon. The applications will likely close and ranking start in April 2019 so the ranking events each with 100 points are 2017 World Masters (Croatia), 2018 World Masters (Ireland), 2018 National Masters (Mooloolaba), 2019 National Masters (Devonport), 2017/18 Season State Masters (Various Venues) and 2018/19 Season State Masters (Various).

2020 World Masters (Geelong)
This event will be held in March 2020 so applications will likely close and ranking start in November 2019. The ranking events will be 2018 World Masters (Ireland), 2019 World Masters (TBA), 2018 National Masters (Mooloolaba), 2019 National Masters (Devonport), 2017/18 Season State Masters (Various Venues) and 2018/19 Season State Masters (Various).
