Laser Radial in 2009 Australian Youth Olympic Festival

The Australian Youth Olympic Festival (AYOF), a youth multi-sport event, provides an opportunity for young athletes to compete in a major event incorporating some of the key elements of the Olympic Games. Sailing is being included for the second time.

Great Aussie Results at Radial Worlds in New Zealand

Aussie sailors have taken some of the top places at the Laser Radial World Championships held during March in New Zealand with Gabrielle King being crowned the World Champion in the Women’s Youth event.

2008 World Laser 4.7 Youth Championship – Selection Policy

The ALCA has issued a selection policy detailing the basis upon which rankings will be determined for members of Australian Laser districts, who have applied for entry to the 2008 World Laser 4.7 Youth Championship.

ISAF Youth Worlds Selection Policy

In light of confirmation that the Laser Radial will be the equipment used for both the girls and boys events at the 2009 ISAF World Youth Sailing Championship, the Board of Yachting Australia has moved quickly to confirm the selection policy for the event.

ISAF Youth Worlds – Radial replaces Standard Rig

At the recent ISAF annual meeting a decision was made to remove the Laser Standard rig as the boys youth class at the ISAF Youth Worlds starting in 2010 in Turkey.

2008 World Youth Laser 4.7 Championship Entry – 7th January 2008

The 2008 World Youth Laser 4.7 Championship is an allocated event (with a restricted number of places issued to each district). Therefore only sailors qualified by their district can enter the championship.

Important Notice to Laser Radial Sailors about the Worlds

The ILCA announced on the 12th December 2007 that the World Laser Radial Men’s Championship and the World Laser Radial Youth Championship (both boys and girls) are to be allocated events.

To date, the ALCA has been allocated places as follows:
World Laser Radial Men’s Championship – 3 places
World Laser Radial Youth Championship (boys) – 3 places
World Laser Radial Youth Championship (girls) – 3 places

Today on the 92.5 ABC Central Coast Commutercast podcast another edition of “In Business” our program that focuses on manufacturing and employment in the local area.

Today the amazing success story of Performance Sail Craft on the aptly named Catamaran Road. The Central Coast boat building company has nearly 200 new Olympic Laser Class boats finished and in storage for the World Championships to be staged at the Haven, Terrigal in February 2008.

Reigning World Champion, Brisbane Water sailor Tom Slingsby, will be a red hot favourite on his home waters, particularly if the sea breeze blows hard.

IC-217 World Laser Masters Championship 2007

Amendment to Notice of Race – Entry Limit
18th June 2007

Entries to the 2007 Laser World Masters Championship have exceeded our expectations and are currently at a record level. We have been in negotiation with the host club to increase the total number of entries. They are currently not in a position to agree to this. We are continuing to review the logistic issues that the high entry will give the club. In the meantime we will close the entry list at a total 350 entries. Anyone attempting to enter after the entry list is closed will be invited to register on a waiting list. Any places that may become available due to cancellations will be offered to sailors in the order of the waiting list. In the case that an agreement can be reached on a higher entry limit we will inform all the sailors on the waiting list.

Since my last email back in March much water has gone under the bridge in trying to come up with a solution that would achieve great sailing and create a true Laser event in the traditional of past Asia Pacific events.

I believe we now have an opportunity to achieve both of these objectives.
